Name is Eric and I ordered my first Dornbluth (99.1) a couple months ago and expect delivery in March 2013. I go by the same handle on the other watch forums.

This watch is going to be engraved on the plate with the DOB of my new child. This forum has been an invaluable resource and probably the main contributing factor to me ordering a Dornbluth. Very Happy

I have a couple questions and a picture request.

1) Are the yellow (or red) gold applied numerals plated or cut from solid sheet gold stock (14k ,18k)?

2) In regard to movement plating, I like the two toned look where the balance cock is plated with white metal and the remaining is plated with the typical red gold. Is this white metal Rhodium?

3) Does anyone have any pictures of a silver dial (preferably 99.1) with red gold applied markers? I've seen pictures of them on a 04.0 but the dial was black and the font of the markers was smaller.

Thank you,
Eric

Thank you, Rubar! I see that it is Rhodium.

But the picture you linked of the applied markers are yellow gold instead of red gold.

I think it will be better to check with Diter.

Hello Eric,

Good questions, but you may have to contact the manufacture to get answers to 1 and 3! I don't believe I've ever seen a white dial with red gold applied numerals. As to the composition, I would have assumed 18k metal, but I don't think I recall reading this anywhere.

Thanks for the response, Tom. I must have gone through ever thread related to Dornbluth ever made.

I emailed Dirk asking the same questions and will report back with his answer.

As promised here's the scoop...

All are plated. If they were solid it would require specialized tools to set the softer metal into the dial as the original method sets them at high pressure. What was cool is that Dirk actually gave me a quote for solid appliques which upheld his reputation of fulfilling custom requests. Unfortunately, the option wasn't even temping given the cost as I could go with a solid gold case instead. Shocked

As for red gold markers on a Silver dial it's never been done so no pictures exist.

Good work Eric. I'd wondered about that myself.

Cheers!
