Are the seconds hands "hacking"?

Hi everyone,

I discovered Dornblueths a few weeks ago and am very interested in getting one. I have not seen one in person, though, and have a question that I have not been able to find the answer to: does the second hand stop when you pull out the crown?

I have seen the fancy "quattro arret" option being discussed, so I think I have figured out what that is (it going to the nearest 15 seconds is definitely more convenient that waiting almost a minute to synch a like most watches). But do the base model movements have a second hand that stops?

Hi Mofongo and welcome to this forum.Unfortunately the base model have not this function. The only way to have something similar on your Dornbluth is the Quattro Arret function.

I've never understood what is so useful about Quatro Arret, that is being able to stop the second hand anywhere but top dead center. Once you stop the second hand, you need to adjust the minute to match, right? But how would you do that when the second hand is anywhere but top dead center?

It seems to me that a Single Arret function would be more useful - so that the second hand goes immediately to the top when you pull the crown. Then you can set the minute hand at a marker.

One day I was setting my watch in a hurry. I figured out that synchronizing with my reference clock mid-minute was intuitive and it took a lot less time than waiting for both my watch and my reference clock to hit 60. I wonder if this is what Dirk intended?
